First Post Part B

I'll explain the work/volunteer concept.  There are several websites that serve as match makers for volunteers ( that's Teresa and myself) and hosts (that's where we'll go.)  The two we have been reviewing are www.workaway.info and www.helpx.net.  In most cases you get yourself to their location, wherever it is, and volunteer to work for 4 - 6 hours, 5 or 6 days a week and return they provide room and board.  Both organizations have hosts worldwide.

Some hosts also have tasks that you can do that might pay a few bucks to help in getting around and sightseeing.  I am hoping to take advantage of that !!!

For now, I am attempting to contact hosts via these two organizations and put ourselves out there.

First Post

Well, we're planning our next adventure now. First, in September we're headed to Cancun for a break before we head out.

Then, in late Oct or early Nov we're headed to Australia to work/volunteer our way around the country for a year or so. That's the thought behind the the "work about" title for our new blogspot. We will be working and "walking about" the country.

Last weekend we went REI sports and got our backpacks. Teresa has already "practiced" packing once. We're getting ready.

I am in a bit of a conundrum though. Good planning is the key to success. That doesn't mean I'm afraid of being spontaneous, but it means I need some plan to start with. The conundrum is that not everyone else is on the same page. I have had many positive responses from the "hosts" in Australia, but often they're like "call when you're here and we'll see." Like I said, I need to have at least a working plan to start with.

Oh, and I forgot. Enroute to Australia we're going to Boise, ID to see my Mom, Scott and amily and my aunt and uncle, Connie and Tom. Then on to Monterey to see Adam and Claire and family.

Teresa has another plan for now. See, I can be spontaneous.
